Driving crash course in Wales — pass in days, not months
Intensive driving lessons over 1 to 9 consecutive days with your own DVSA-approved instructor, across South & West Wales. Manual or automatic, beginner or retake.
A driving crash course packs your lessons into consecutive days instead of an hour a week for months. You learn faster because nothing is forgotten between lessons, you get the same instructor throughout, and the course is planned to finish just before your practical test. We've been running them across South & West Wales for years — "crash course" is simply the everyday name for what we call an intensive driving course.
How a crash course week works
- Day one: assessment. Your instructor sees how you drive now and builds a plan around your weak points — no wasted hours on what you can already do.
- Daily lessons, typically 2 to 5 hours. Long enough to make real progress, short enough to stay sharp. Pick-up from home where possible.
- Real test routes. You practise on the roads, roundabouts and junctions used by the test centre you'll be sitting at.
- Mock test. A full run-through under test conditions before the real thing, so nothing on the day is a surprise.
- Your practical test at the end of the course, with your instructor's car.
Who a driving crash course suits
- Learners who want a licence for a job, a university place or a move — and need it by a date.
- Complete beginners who'd rather learn in one focused block than drag it out over a year.
- Anyone who has failed a test and wants a short, sharp course to go again with confidence.
- Drivers returning after a long gap, or converting from an automatic licence to manual.
- People with a theory pass who just need the practical side done.
How many hours will you need?
Courses run from 5 to 45 hours. As a rough guide: a refresher or post-fail course is usually 5 to 10 hours; someone with some experience 15 to 25 hours; a complete beginner 30 hours or more. We'd rather tell you the honest number on day one than sell you a course that's too short — if more hours are needed, we'll say so and explain your options.
Manual or automatic crash course?
Automatic is the quickest route to a licence: with no clutch or gears to master, many automatic pupils are test-ready inside a week. A manual crash course takes a little longer but gives you a full licence covering both types of car. Not sure? Tell us how you'll use your licence and we'll recommend one. Automatic crash courses →
Booking your driving test
Since 12 May 2026 driving schools can no longer book or move practical tests for pupils, so you book your own test with the DVSA and we build the course to finish just before it. Our course booking information page walks through the order to do things in, and we'll guide you on the phone too.
Driving crash course FAQs
Is a driving crash course the same as an intensive driving course?
Yes. They are two names for the same thing: driving lessons concentrated into consecutive days rather than spread over months. We call them intensive courses; most people searching for them say crash course.
How long does a driving crash course take?
Between 1 and 9 days depending on how many hours you need. A complete beginner typically needs the longer end; someone who has driven before, or who has failed a test and wants to go again, can often be ready in a few days.
Can I do a crash course with no driving experience?
Yes. Many of our pupils start from scratch. Your instructor assesses you on day one and builds the plan from there — nothing is assumed.
Is the driving test included?
Since 12 May 2026 driving schools are no longer allowed to book or change tests on a pupil's behalf, so you book your own practical test with the DVSA. We tell you exactly how and when to do it, and plan the course to finish just before your test date. See our course booking information page for the details.
Manual or automatic — which is quicker?
Automatic is usually quicker to learn because there is no clutch or gear work, so many automatic pupils are test-ready inside a week. A manual licence lets you drive both types of car. We run crash courses in both.
Do I pay everything up front?
No. A deposit secures your course and the balance is due before tuition starts. Prices and deposits for every course length are on our prices and guide page.
